Vickie had breast augmentation surgery with scar tissue removal under the care of breast surgeon consultant Adam Critchley. She has opened up to Mr Critchley and his team about her experience of undergoing breast augmentation surgery, why Adam was her chosen surgeon, how she came to the decision of moving forward with the surgery, and how she felt after her initial consultation.
Name: Vickie
Procedure: Breast augmentation with scar tissue removal
Why did you decide to undergo breast surgery?
I first had a breast augmentation 12 years ago, two years after surgery I gave birth to twins. After successfully breastfeeding my boys, I noticed my breasts were larger and firmer. I spoke with Adam to understand what my options were as my breasts were starting to become uncomfortable.
Why did you choose Adam Critchley as your breast surgeon?
For full transparency, I had my initial consultation with another surgeon who was recommended by a friend of mine. Due to a disagreement around wait times, the surgeon referred me to Adam. I really believe everything happens for a reason and I am absolutely delighted that I was sent to work with Adam. Adam never once made me feel uncomfortable about the discussion I’d had with the previous surgeon, and offered for me to have the earliest slot in the day (where possible), so there was minimal chance of running late. As a busy member of twins, I really appreciated this.
How was your initial consultation with Adam Critchley?
My initial conversation with Adam was good, we discussed that for the second surgery I would need drains, which I was absolutely dreading, but Adam took the time to reassure me and explain why they were necessary.
Adam also took time to run through the different shapes and sizes and how they would look on my body. In hindsight, I wish I had chosen the implants I have now, the first time.
What was your experience like on the day of surgery with Adam Critchley and his team?
Adam and his team were absolutely amazing. I can’t praise the surgical team enough. From the team who took me to the room, to the lovely man who put me to sleep and made me feel at ease. A huge thank you to everyone. Adam made sure to check in with me before the surgery and after had woken up.
How was the recovery after your surgery?
My recovery was really good, I don’t tolerate morphine well, however I was in hardly any pain, the only discomfort was the drains which were removed a day after surgery. I spent the night at the hospital and was home by the following lunchtime. I took a couple of days off work as I’m office based and able to work from home, I barely needed any pain relief when I went home.
What advice would you give to someone else considering breast surgery?
I would strongly recommend consulting with a surgeon to discuss why you’d like the surgery, and to talk through your options.
